Life is a Gas... (and more pictures)

Howdy folks.

(editorial note: we're including this update so that Daniel won't look back and be able to claim that he was perfect -> that would just make his head too big)

I feel that I need to let you in on a secret: even perfect babies cry sometimes. Yes, it's shocking, but true. In my case, it's usually because I'm feeling, well, gassy. Hurts like heck, it does. Mom has experimented with various bottle types, nipples and feeding positions, and it seems to be getting better. Here's a picture from last week, though.

I do have good, strong lungs and when I let loose, there's no need for a baby monitor... Mom or Dad holding me usually calms me down quickly.

Since I'm on a roll here: What is up with baby acne? OK, so it's "natural" and all that, but shouldn't I be allowed to reach my teens before worrying about zits? No pictures of the face until that cleans up...

There are about 40 new pictures in imagestation album #3 - if you're a regular reader, you've seen many of them here on the blog, but this way you can get prints if you want. Same link as before.

A special "Hi" to the folks who left comments. Glad you're here.

Until next time. D

1 Month Old and Still Dancing....

I'm one month old today! And the answer to Wednesday's triva question is: 7lbs 11oz adjusted for the cast. My unofficial length is 21 1/4 inches. That's a lot of growing! This is the same outfit I wore home from the hosiptal on Day 3. As you can see, it fits much better now.
I can move my head from side to side when I'm on my tummy. I'm using my hands more and more. I especially like to hold onto hair and I'm pretty close to holding my pacifier. I can down 4oz of milk in 25 minutes. My favorite awake activity is people watching.
Thanks for tuning in....

Something is different again....

Here's cast #3. It's pearl (Mom's fancy word for off white). The cool thing about this week is that Mom got to take the old one off a few hours before our doctor's visit. Sooooo, I got my very first non-sponge bath yesterday!!! I LOVE water!!! I could have floated in the sink for hours.
As you can see, my favorite activity during the day is to sleep. Dad left for Norway/Sweden today, so I stayed up all night with him to be sure we got lots of quality time together before he left. We took him to the airport this morning and I've slept ever since. Well, except for a couple of quality milk breaks!
On a techincal note, it appears that several people are a bit puzzled on how to post comments. Immediately following this posting, it says ' posted by Eric and Anida @ 5:39 PM 0 comments'. Click on the word comments and you'll be presented with a new page to leave your comments. Hope that helps.
Since I'll be turning one month this weekend, we're going to get me weighed on Friday to see how much I've grown....Any guesses?....Tune in next time for that breaking news...

Howdy Folks!

Now, I told you I'd be back. Hopefully you haven't been worried. There's lot's of stuff to report on by now. Let's see - where to start? Let me start with the fact that I've outgrown some clothes. OK, not exactly outgrown, but it's getting mighty close with that cute little "Lazy Dog" outfit from Farmor. The onesies now actually fit snugly, so there's some evidence that I'm growing. That, or come to think of it, maybe mom's shrinking my clothes...

What else? Well, I went to a baby shower yesterday for the future Harrison S. He's scheduled to arrive sometime in early July, and I have every reason to believe we'll be spending a lot of time together, since my parents seem to like his folks.

Babe is still visiting, and will be here for another week because Dad is going to Sweden for Morfar's funeral. Sorry I never got to meet you, Morfar Hans. It sure is nice to have grandma around, though.

My book collection is growing by leaps and bounds, and I'm even more aware than I was last week, and my food consumption is going up, and wow - there's just all sorts of things to report on.

Oh, and tomorrow is new-cast-day. So far, it's been blue, it's been red. What's next? The computer geek says "green", the patriot says "white". A case could be made for purple, or blue again. I guess we'll just have to wait and see what colors they have at Children's.

I'll let you know.

I'm three weeks old Today!

Happy threeweeksold to me! Happy threeweeksold to me! Happy THREE WEEKS OLD to me-ee. Happy threeweeksold to me.

To celebrate, we broke out a bottle of the good stuff. You know what I'm talking about....

The picture above is really pretty neat in full-size. It's been added to imagestation album #3, and you can see it in gory detail by clicking on it, then selecting "View original image"

I also realized that I had turned off the ability for you, the global fans (30 states, 4 continents) to use the comment feature - so this mono(b)log can now be a dia(b)log if you feel like participating -just click on the "comment" icon.

All is good. Hope everyone's doing well. Here's a shout-out to my friend Felix - one of Dad's college friends son, born in Portland about 2 weeks before me.

Until next time. D

Not much news today

Today was just not that eventful of a day. I ate, slept, woke up. Went to lunch with mom, babe and some of mom's old colleagues. Came home, etc. Truth be told, there's just not stuff to report on every day - and yet I feel an obligation to you, the global fan base. Some of you log in 6 times a day, probably looking for a burp-update. The pressure. The pressure, I say...

So, next time there's just nothing new, I might skip a day or two. Don't panic, Danielites - I'll be back - I just don't want to turn this blog into trivia for the sake of saying something every day.

By the way, the answer to yesterday's quiz was, of course, the new cast. The folks at children's hospital said I was doing great, then wrapped me up again. Dad's guilty little secret is that a stiff leg actually makes me easier to dress.

Until next time.

Something is different today

I'm not giving any hints, but can anyone guess what happened today? OK, I'll give you a hint - the new one is red. But that's all I'm saying. Also, today I started really tracking things with my eyes and head. This is the equivalent of getting into Harvard at my age, so the parents are pleased. More news tomorrow.

Cogito - ergo sum

I think, therefore I am. Or, at 4am in the morning, the real question is - how long can I stay awake? Dad let me sleep Sunday afternoon, so I rewarded him by staying up until - well, late. Given that he had to go to work early monday, this wasn't really all that appreciated, but hey - at least I'm cute when I'm awake.... I'm eating more and more every day (the parents are tracking). Oh - and my popularity is shooting through the roof according to my blog statistics! Hello, Oregon! Hello, Norway! Hello, Nebraska? Glad to have you here.

Grandma "Babe" is visiting

Now, if Dad had been thinking, he would have gotten a picture of "babe" holding me, rather than standing behind a door. Dad wasn't thinking, and so that's all we have. Anyway, grandma Judy is up in Denver this week, visiting me! She wants to be called "Babe" for reasons that you'll have to ask her about, but fine with me. Today I went to the park, then stayed out in the back with Dad while he read the NY Times. That, unfortunately, meant that I slept too much today - see the next post.

Bookcase

We finally got the bookcase for my room, so now all of my things aren't all over the floor anymore. Can't quite read yet, but mommy is helping me out with that.

Went up to Cherry Creek Mall today in my stroller. Nice little walk, or so they tell me - it's not like I ever remember these things because the stroller puts me right to sleep.

2-Week Dr. Visit

Went in for the 2-week visit at the pediatrician. All is good. I'm still not the biggest guy out there, but I'm gaining an ounce-or-so every day. So today, I weighed in at 6lbs, 14oz, but that's cheating, because it includes the cast.

The worst part was that I had to do the mandatory Colorado AND Oregon blood tests, so they squeezed my foot dry, and then went looking for more in my arm. I'm bruised up a little. Nothing more than that it traumatizes the parents.

Also went to a party at Eric's office in my honor. No fair - everyone else had pizza, and I had the sucky little formula bottle. Wanted pizza. Got some nice things from folks, though, including a beautiful afghan that Jeanne made by hand.

It's been Party-Central

It's been party-central around here! Earlier in the week, Stu, Julie, Carly and Alex came by to visit. I went to a party with Anida's old colleagues, and today, Auntie Monica came to town. I *like* Monica.

I also went to the park with mom, and have been tooling around town with her.

That Cast I mentioned

That cast I mentioned. So here's what I look like in my first week's cast. I call it the "injured ski bum" look, and I'm sure it'll be a hit with the women. Anyway. I'm going to be wearing a new cast every week for the next 6-8 weeks, as they gradually tweak my foot back to "normal"

Went to the Doc today

so, it turns out that I have a little bit of a clubfoot. Nothing too severe, but it needs to be fixed. Today we went over to the childrens' hospital and got me all fitted up with the first of a series of progressive casts. Basically, they're going to give me a new cast every week for the next 6-8 weeks in order to mold my foot back into normal.

I don't seem to care about the cast. Mom and Dad are a lot more concerned because it's so big. Maybe I'll post a picture later.

Stu, Julie, Carly and Alex came over to say hello - it's a regular visitation central around here.

Home in Denver

Took my first flight today from Oregon to Denver. Bit of a non-event, really. The flight was full, but when we arrived at the check-in counter, we smiled, showed me off to the agent at the counter, and "boom" don't you know it? There was suddenly an open seat for me. Thanks, United.

Sat at the window, had a little drink on takeoff and landing, but otherwise didn't do much but sleep.

Got home, and found that Meg had hung balloons on the doorstep, and that Craig left me a pie. Thanks, guys!
