Standing Is Fun

Here I am standing at my Activity Table. I need help getting up, but I sure like the view from this angle. Just this weekend, I've started moving side-to-side ('cruising') along the couch. It's only a few steps, but you've got to start somewhere.
I want to give Papa a shout out. He's on a business trip this week. We sure do miss him. I've been practicing my pa-pa sounds for you. Love, D

9 months young

Well, here we are at 9 months old. Can you believe it, my friends? Almost 4000 pictures later, 5000 hits to the blog, and countless amusing little anectodes that no doubt will show up to embarrass me sooner or later.

Anyhoo - I spent the morning just chilling with my friend "Dog" who got lost in Norway, but when he came back, he had a matching sweater to mine. Cool, no?

At the pediatrician, it turns out that I'm still on the small side (10% and 15% percentile for weight and height), but have a huge, honking head at the 75% percentile. The doc says not to worry and that kids go through spurts and slowdowns. I'm not anemic, and I'm in great shape - just shaped like a lollipop with this big head... (and wouldn't you rather have a big head and a small body than the other way around?)

I'm scooting all over the floor - I particularly like chasing the cats. Sam let me play with him for a while on Friday, but then I started dragging him across the floor by his tail, and that was too much for him.

The social calendar is filling up for the spring - "Babe" is coming in 2 weeks, and then Farmor and Grampa make an appearance in March. No big trips planned for me yet, but there just might be one to Norway this summer.

I've rambled long enough now. Hope everyone is well.

Love, D.

Who knew that Reid was a Steelers fan?

OK, so Reid "Big Boy" Finch didn't really punch me out over a football brawl - I got this shiner by launching myself from dad's lap and hitting the desk before he caught me. It's not too serious - I'll have my winning smile back before I turn 9 months old this week. Season's over for the Broncos - boo.

I'm sleeping through the night on a pretty predictable schedule now, which makes everyone around me happy. Mom whipped out a baby cookbook and spent this weekend making up some more exciting dishes like Turkey with Rice and Apples. The freezer is full, so I should be set for a while.

Have I told you that I'm quite the little performer? When I do my tricks, I look around for applause or acknowledgement, and I'm happy when grownups notice, but very, very, very sad when they don't. I can also get quite upset when they decide it's bedtime and I'm not ready to call it a day yet - they usually know best though, because I'm always asleep within five minutes of them leaving me.

When I'm really happy, I make a little dance by kicking and waving my arms. Maybe I'll try to catch it on video for you all.

We're a week out from the official 9-month visit to the pediatrician, and you know that means it's time for statistics. Stay tuned...

Love, D.

Stuff has been happening

Hey there, everyone!

So this is one of those posts where there's a little bit of everything going on. Let's see. Before I forget to tell you - Album number 7 is up and running with all of the pictures from November and December of last year except the ones with my cousin Leo - trust me when I tell you that he's cool, and we'll share the photos when we can.

My foot is making good progress, and I'm now cleared to just wear the cast when I sleep. I bet my crawling will be improving dramatically. I already have started crawling from one room to another.

It turns out that I had an ear infection in both ears, and the parents were feeling like "the worst parents ever" for not noticing, but I was in such good spirits - just couldn't quite shake a fever. In any case, I'm noshing on antibiotics now, and all is good.

I went to my first class of baby sign language last week. Wow, there's a lot to learn, but I'm starting this week with "more", "done", "cat", "ball" and a few other words. I'm pretty good about letting you know if I'm hungry, but otherwise, I can be a little hard to understand.

I'm sure I'm forgetting to tell you something, but I'll remember by the next post.

Feeling Better!

Hey everyone! Well - that was a nasty little cold. I've been gradually getting better, and today I'm back to my normal smiley self. Whew! When I'm not happy, no-one's happy.

I've got a new buddy today. Everyone say "Welcome" to Reid (Big Boy) Finch! I haven't met him yet, but I understand that he's as cute as can be, and even though he's 8 months younger, that 10 lbs starting weight should have him up and running soon. I'm sure there will be pictures.

Have you noticed my new hair? It's filling in nicely. I'm thinking about a mullet.

I'm really starting to play with the cats now, those ears make great handles... Sam doesn't like it much, but he cuts me some slack.

I was feeling well enough yesterday that Mom and Dad were able to go on a date and left me with a baby sitter. Don't know where they went, but I was sleeping when they got back, so I had fun too.

More updates later. Don't let me forget to tell you about how I've learned to pose for the camera.

Love, D.
