Danielites!
Today, the topic is feet. Yes, we went to Children's hospital today, for the long-awaited x-rays. More on that later.
First, you need to admire these -> real beauties, aren't they? I have a bit of a rash on the back of my knee from the last cast, but other than that, I look and feel great. Does anyone even remember how this foot looked originally? Not like this, that's for sure!
I was feeling pretty good about our progress as we headed of to see Dennis and Paul and the crazy radiologist today. I was really good on the x-ray machine and only cried a little!
Now, the for the lateral shot:
The area to focus on is inside that blue rectangle. There's a bone in there, and you can kind of see that it's tilted down.
The red line is how it used to be.
The yellow line shows how it is today, and the green one shows where it needs to be.
So I'm not done (boo). Here's what we think is going to happen.
- I get 2 weeks off for the skin on my leg to rest
- Then I get another cast for 2 weeks
- At the beginning of September, I have some surgery to lengthen my achilles tendon. That will let that bone go down to where it needs to be.
- More casts - probably 3 casts for 3 weeks each.
- I run the marathon.
That last part isn't on Dr. Dennis' schedule, but it ought to be. According to him, I'm doing really well, and things are progressing as he thought they would, but I won't be done until I'm almost 7 months old. Now, that's a bummer!
That concludes the foot update. More news later.
Love, D.
